These are direct replacements for your OEM reverse light bulbs. As with all LED reverse bulbs for 3-Series models, you may need a resistor. The reason for this is LED bulbs draw less power than halogen bulbs, so your car's computer (some of them, not all) thinks there aren't any bulbs, because it isn't giving the proper resistance. The resistor basically compensates for the entire 'circuit' of LED lights going to your cars computer and tricks it into thinking there's more resistance, equal to that of a halogen bulb. There's no system or reason to which cars need the resistor and which ones don't. Each car is different. You'll know that you need a resistor if you install the bulbs and they do not turn on. During the few days it takes us to ship you a resistor, you can simply swap back to your halogen bulbs.
